COLLEGE COUNSELING

Big Dreams. Bold Choices. Army and Navy Academy’s college counselors are here to help students make great choices as they navigate their plans for the future. We support students as they learn how to make solid decisions, prepare for college exams, prepare letters of recommendation, and complete the college application process against deadlines.

The Academy boasts impressive matriculation to renowned institutions such as: UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, UCSB. UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Stanford, NYU, Cornell, Columbia, University of Michigan, as well as top service services academies: U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, and U.S. Coast Guard Academy (see details about our college matriculation).

As our graduates head off to prestigious colleges, universities, and service academies, they do so with a greater sense of identity, purpose, and moral grounding.

Where do graduates attend college or university?

Most students choose to attend traditional public and private universities; however, some students attend the service academies or a university with an ROTC program.

See our college matriculation for more details. It includes the Ivy League and top universities and colleges in the United States and abroad.

U.S. Private Universities:

Stanford, Columbia, Cornell, Rutgers, NYU, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Georgetown, USC, and more.

U.S. Public Universities:

Many students choose a University of California campus and we have an excellent track record with all of the campuses. In addition, some students choose public universities across the U.S.

U.S. Service Academies:

Some students attend our boarding school to gain a competitive edge to gain admission to: USNA, USMA, USAFA, USCGA, USMMA.

What kinds of classes and electives prepare students for careers?

Unlike most private schools, the Academy offers practical real world skills as students pursue their interests in areas such as: business, leadership, management, technology, science, engineering, aviation, and the media. Check out our electives, clubs, and special internships programs or call us to discuss in more detail.

Does attending Army & Navy Academy help students get into the top service academies?

Absolutely! We have a great history of graduates heading off to the highly selective academies: U.S. Military Academy West Point, U.S. Naval Academy Annapolis, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

We also expect more students to apply to the U.S. Air Force Academy because of our Warrior Aviation Course. You can actually get your Pilot’s License while attending high school!

Notable alumni include: top military officers, diplomats, and government officials.

Our stellar leadership program will advance your life and career goals.

What kinds of college majors and careers do graduates pursue?

For over a century, the Academy has been grooming students to become top leaders in fields including: business, management, entrepreneurship, hotel management, science, medicine, engineering, technology, media, law, government, and diplomacy. We also have writers, actors, and musicians in our alumni.

“This is not a school. It’s an institution for life, success, cultural intelligence and relationships. The range of diversity of cadets allowed me to grow with others of all different backgrounds. I honestly use what I learned at Army Navy more in my everyday life than my college education.”

-- Alex H., Alumnus

Success Plan for the College Application Process

The college application process has become increasingly complicated and stressful in the last several years as more and more students are applying. Therefore, it is imperative that high school juniors begin the initial college search process in the later part of their junior year and the summer before their senior year.

First, we recommend that cadets create a list of colleges, universities, or service academies they are interested in applying to based on reach, target, and likely.

  • 3 Reach Schools –  GPA and test scores are slightly below the average for that school
  • 3 Target Schools – GPA and test scores are at the average for that school
  • 3 Likely Schools –  GPA and test scores fall above the average for that school

The KEYS to successfully applying to colleges are organization and follow-through. To help Army and Navy Academy students in these key areas, we hold several workshops for both cadets and parents.

We provide individualized attention and support to every student to find the best fit and to assist with the college application process.
