BETTER FOR EVERY BOY

Army and Navy Academy has a revolutionary focus on boy brain science and virtue development that sets us apart from other schools. We use evidence-based instructional techniques like kinesthetic learning that help boys thrive in the classroom and beyond. Teachers and mentors work every day to cultivate virtue in our cadets. The end result is an environment that is better for every boy, from exceptional high-achievers to young men still striving to reach their full potential.

FORGING VIRTUOUS YOUNG MEN

As one of California’s top boarding schools for boys, Army and Navy Academy has a singular mission: to forge virtuous young men for life. We’re better for every boy because we are built for how boys learn, grow, and thrive. As a Gurian Center for Excellence, we use research-based teaching and mentoring techniques to help every cadet reach his maximum personal potential. Our learning community is highly structured and values-driven, singularly engineered toward helping boys gain the focus, confidence, and character to excel far beyond the classroom. Becoming an Army and Navy Academy cadet isn’t just stepping into another private school: it’s a step toward lifelong success.

OUR FUNDAMENTALS

Cultivating academic excellence and training exceptional scholar-athletes is the bare minimum of what a military boarding school should do. Army and Navy Academy graduates are currently attending top colleges, including Stanford, Dartmouth, the University of Chicago, the United States Naval Academy, and West Point. It’s our focus on the science of how boys learn and virtue development that makes us an unparalleled opportunity for any young man looking to thrive in an increasingly challenging world.

Virtue is our priority in all that we do, a fact reflected in the environment of dignity and respect that pervades our beachfront campus. Our core values of Honor, Integrity, Respect, Commitment, Gratitude, and Courage don’t just guide our cadets: they are guidelines that motivate every member of our educational community to uplift, serve, and inspire others. We teach our cadets to live these values every day and in every interaction.

BUILT FOR BOYS

We recognize that boys in middle school and high school have unique educational needs that are not being met in other public and private school settings. Across the country, boys are falling behind in school, resulting in a crisis in higher education and poorer life outcomes for young men. We address the needs of boys through the use of the Gurian Model, a revolutionary set of educational techniques that help boys learn best.

INSTILLING VIRTUE

Virtue development is a hands-on experience at Army and Navy Academy. Each week, cadets engage with dynamic guest speakers who share life lessons rooted in our core values of Honor, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, and Gratitude. These interactive sessions spark conversation, inspire reflection, and give our cadets practical tools to navigate life’s challenges with confidence. Our graduates become virtuous men for life.

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS

Boys today are growing up in a world that is not always designed for how they develop, learn, and mature. When we understand what is happening in the male brain and body, we can support healthier outcomes in school, at home, and in mental health.

That’s why we are excited to invite you to the free, virtual “What Boys Need As Males” conference sponsored by the Santa Fe Boys Fund and the Gurian Institute. Live presentations will take place on January 24–25, with additional sessions on January 23 and January 26.

Army and Navy Academy is honored to be part of the notable speaker lineup, with Academy President Barry Shreiar presenting, and Dean of Academics Dr. Mark Ryan leading a roundtable with four of our international cadets.
