PACIFIC LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!
Last league championship was 1990-1991
Last league co-championship was 1998-1999
Nov. 11, 2008 saw the ANA Warriors clinched their first undisputed league championship in 18 years. Lead by a crushing ground attack and a defense that allowed only 4 first downs for the visiting ECHS White Tigers. This is the first Pacific League Championship.
The Warriors came out sluggish in the first half and quickly fell behind when under a tremendous Warrior rush the ECHS quarterback was able to get off a 41 yard scoring strike. The Warriors blocked the extra point was blocked and the score stood at 6-0 White Tigers. A series of mistakes by both teams marked the rest of the first quarter. The Warriors turned to their running attack that saw a long grinding drive that resulted in Tommy Brown scoring from 2 yards out, with the extra point the Warriors led 7-6.
The second half saw a different Warrior team take the field. The Warriors again turned to their rushing attack to control the game. On the Warriors first possession of the 2nd half ANA drove 70 yards for their second score of the afternoon. This score was provided by a Sherman Coley run from 4 yards out, with the extra point the score was now 14-6 ANA. With ECHS unable to move the ball the Warriors put together another drive to the ECHS 4 yard line. Unfortunately a pass interception killed the drive.
The 4th quarter started with another long Warrior drive that ended with Tommy Brown scoring from 11 yards out. The only real success ECHS had in the second half was to block the extra point. With the score now at 20-6 in favor of ANA the Warriors began to substitute freely. The Warriors final score came late in the game when Desmond Graham scored from 23 yards out making the score 27-6 Warriors. During the game the warriors rolled up 406 yard in total offense with 346 coming on the ground. Tommy Brown rushed for a season high of 260 yard on 35 carries.
The Warriors due to their record were seeded 4th so will have a bye week during the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors will next play at home on Nov. 27th and their will likely be a rematch with La Jolla Country Day in the C.I.F. quarter finals.
Exact time and location will be announced when all the details are finalized.
