About the Residential Life Program

Buildings and Dorm Life

Upper School
The Upper School consists of cadets in grades 10–12. Cadets are further divided into one of four companies according to their grade.

Lower School
The Lower School consists of cadets in grades 7–9. Cadets are further divided into two companies by grade. The 7th and 8th grade cadets make up Echo Company and the 9th grade cadets form Delta Company. Within each company are hand-selected cadets from the Upper School who serve as Cadet Leaders. These leaders receive training in how to support cadets from the Residential Life Officers of the Lower School. This leadership training directly relates to our residential life program. They learn age-specific behavior, peer counseling and mentoring techniques and ways to deal with everyday residential life incidents. Cadet Leaders receive specific job descriptions, but most treat the experience more like being a big brother to the younger cadets.

The Lower School resides on the westernmost acreage of the Academy’s campus, with clear views of the beachfront and the ever-temping surf. While surfboards and boogie boards aren’t required equipment, they are definitely popular.

Crean Hall houses Echo Company and consists of eight quads. Atkinson Hall is made up of four quads with four rooms to each quad. Lewis and McIntosh halls encompass two strip dorms with eight rooms each. Two cadets are assigned to each room, with two Cadet Leaders assigned to each quad or strip dorm. It is the Cadet Leaders' responsibility and goal to convey ownership of their area to the other cadets. Each cadet is assigned a specific responsibility in maintaining the dorm's appearance. From day one cadets learn to work as a team.
