Message from the Head of Upper School

As the new Head of the Upper School, let me convey my great appreciation for the commitment you have just made to the Army and Navy Academy and your son’s career. I find a wealth of resources available at the Academy in steep traditions, honed programs, and experienced personnel. This environment is specifically designed to foster concurrent lines of growth in multiple program areas toward the unique development of your child. We at Army Navy are prepared to do our utmost toward your child’s success.

Being stakeholders in the learning process is an adventure that parents, students, administration, faculty, and staff share collectively as members of a greater school community. Together this year we will seek to nurture growth opportunities in your child and provide guidance toward healthy and independent decision making. This common purpose will move us forward together.

You, as your child’s first and best teacher, are able to provide us with invaluable insight. Likewise, from this vantage you have the ability to give us the single most important commodity in a healthy partnership, your trust. Trust is key to our combined success in the development of your child. During the course of the school year, there may be times when your child or you may doubt the lesson we struggle to teach. We should remain mindful when those situations arise to be good communicators as well as good listeners. These are the times where maintaining trust and keeping steadfast to our commitment is all important.

Championing the unique promise of your young man is the underlining compact our relationship is build upon. Together in this most important task, we will endeavor and succeed.

Best Regards,

David Haynes
Head of Upper School

"I have not a single regret for having attended Army and Academy. I knew at graduation that everyone that had been a teacher, a coach, or a mentor was gleaming with pride when my graduating class received their diplomas … I strongly feel in my heart that going to ANA saved my life and I am eternally grateful.
