A Message to Prospective Students

As the Director of Admission at the Army and Navy Academy, I would like to thank you for your interest and welcome you to visit our unique beachfront campus in Carlsbad, California.

In the Admission Office, we meet with prospective students and parents on a daily basis. It always strikes me that the discussions tend to focus on structure and motivation.  Students tell me that they want to be in a program that will provide the necessary infrastructure to achieve their goals, whether it is to improve their grades, excel in sports or develop leadership skills.

At the Academy, structure and motivation are so deeply embedded in our core values, mission and philosophy, that we often forget that this is what truly sets us apart. When you come for your campus visit, I think that you will quickly see that a rigorous daily schedule, high expectations and a rich campus life can be a strong impetus to change.

This is a place where you can set yourself apart as an individual, while being part of being something bigger than yourself.  This is a close-knit community where you will forge lasting friendships; where teachers, coaches and staff are your mentors. And, unlike many schools, this is an environment where you earn respect from your peers by being a leader, not a follower.

In the small classroom setting, you will see your grades soar and this will open up doors to colleges, universities and military academies of your choice. As an athlete, you will set new goals, and as a person, you will develop inner strength and character.

Perhaps your parents are initiating the decision for you to apply to the Academy, however, it is your commitment to the Academy that will determine the outcome. For this reason, if you are accepted into the Academy, we want to encourage you to demonstrate, not only to your parents, but to yourself, that you can make positive decisions for yourself and achieve in all aspects of our program: Academics, Athletics and Leadership.

So, ask yourself, are you ready to move your life forward?  Are you ready to become an independent, self-motivated and self-disciplined individual that can “make the grade” at Army Navy Academy?

If so, then this is the time and the Academy is your place to make your mark.

We look forward to hearing from you and your parents very soon.

Sincerely,

Candace Heidenrich
Director of Admission

"It's going great here.  It's all a learning experience.  It's a challenge living (at) school constantly, but I'm taking advantage of what they have here.  I needed extra help, and I'm getting it here.  It's a family."
