Some benefits of the boarding experience include:
- Individualized teacher support during and after school
- Academic counseling to keep homework on track
- Leadership opportunities
- Involvement in the athletic program
- College counseling to prepare for the SAT and college applications
- Mentorship from residential life staff after school and in the evening
A typical day for cadets at Army and Navy Academy begins at 6:15 a.m. Cadets clean their room for inspection, take morning attendance, have breakfast and prepare for 8:00 a.m. classes. Periods 1 through 6 meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and classes are 45 minutes in duration. On Thursday and Friday a block schedule is in effect and classes are 70 minutes in duration. Classes 1 through 3 meet on Thursday and classes 4 through 6 meet on Friday. From Monday through Thursday teachers remain in their classroom after school is out, offering daily tutorial for cadets who need additional assistance. For some cadets, a required tutorial may be assigned. Click here to veiw a weekly class schedule. A daily bulletin is posted to the School Portal of the Academy website and announcements read to cadets during first period of each day. You may review today's daily bulletin in the downloads section of the school portal.
Organized sports and physical training (for those not in an organized sport) are scheduled after school from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Cadets dine in the Academy's mess hall and have free time until 7:00 p.m. From 7:00-9:00 p.m. cadets in all grade levels have a "Call to Quarters (CQ)" time to work on homework and study. Managed study hall is run by academic counselors during this time as well, supported by teachers who have a rotated evening schedule. The Library and computer lab are also open for supervised cadet use during this time.
The last hour before "lights out," 9:00-10:00 p.m., is a dedicated time for cadets to meet with their respective Residential Life Officer. Taps is sounded at 10:00 p.m., signaling lights out for the evening.
