Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will I qualify for assistance? The Academy is committed to working with families based upon the application materials provided. As we do not specify an income cap, we encourage you to apply only if you need assistance. We look at all members of the family who will be contributing towards the cost of tuition and fees. In many cases, this includes parents, step-parents, grandparents and other guardians.
2. What factors are considered in granting financial aid? Priority is given to students that meet or exceed Mission Appropriate Standards (Minimum 2.0 G.P.A. /No Discipline Record). The Financial Aid Committee bases decisions on many factors that include an applicant’s grades, citizenship, and leadership abilities. It is also determined based upon financial need as documented in the PFS form (Parent’s Financial Statement) and Income Tax Returns.
Please note that priority is given to current families and no “scholarships” are granted for special talents (i.e. athletics).
3. What is a “typical” award for a new student? For new students, the award typically helps offset the cost of books and uniforms. For families that have two or more students attending, there is a 10% discount that is applied to the first student’s tuition.
4. Do you offer a Military Discount? Yes, we offer 10% off the total tuition cost for active military families.
5. What if my son is a returning student? Do I have to reapply each year for assistance? Financial circumstances can change, so it is necessary to reapply each year. We encourage you to retain copies of the completed PFS forms for reference.
6. What if I am separated, divorced or remarried? The non-custodial parent must fill out a (PFS) form and submit tax return information.
7. Does Army and Navy Academy have a monthly payment plan? We encourage families to use a lender for payment plans (e.g. Your Tuition Solution). In some selected cases, we may offer a plan to families based upon financial need. The number of plans offered each year is limited, so we encourage early application.
8. Is my application confidential? Yes, the Financial Aid Committee maintains strict confidentiality over financial aid files.
9. What if I don’t qualify or the aid is not sufficient? We recommend that you consider applying for a loan to offset the balance.
10. Does applying for financial aid affect my son’s chances for admission? No, students are accepted based upon the criteria established through the Admission Department, not on the basis of whether an applicant has applied for financial aid. It should be noted, however, that funding may not be available for all admitted students.
11. Are there loans available? Yes, please contact Your Tuition Solution for terms, rates and application information. There is a simple on-line application to guide you.
