The Army and Navy Academy's Samuel Warfield Peterson Library and Information Center provides an environment conducive to student research, academic endeavors, and recreational pursuits through the use of technological and traditional means.
The library’s collection includes some 5,000 reference, fiction and nonfiction books, 50 subscriptions to magazines and journals, and three online databases. Cadets may use the library throughout the day, which may include time during class, tutorial, CQ (Call to Quarters—quiet time), or recreational time. The library and computer lab have 31 computers, two printers and a photocopy machine for cadets to use. Because Army Navy is a boarding school, the staff keeps a ready supply of materials that our cadets need to complete academic assignments.
The Head Librarian teaches information literacy skills daily through classroom and/or individual instruction. Some of these skills include how to evaluate Web pages for accurate and authoritative information, tools to use with proprietary online databases to focus research, and how to use information effectively and ethically.
